ROLF LISLEVAND and BOR ZULJAN (Norway, Slovenia)
Rome, 1536
Rolf Lislevand, vihuela
Bor Zuljan, lute, Renaissance guitar
..........................................
Papal lutenist Francesco da Milano and Luys de Narváez from Granada, who had played the vihuela – a Spanish version of the lute for King Charles V, are considered the greatest virtuosos of the 16th century. According to numerous documents, they were masters of improvisation who were able to captivate their audiences. It is quite probable that they met in 1536 when Narváez supposedly arrived to Rome.
The first stage encounter of the famous Norwegian lutenist Rolf Lislevand and the young specialist for Renaissance improvisation Bor Zuljan will try to re-enact the hypothetical performance of Milano and Narváez. We will witness a live dialogue of fantasies and intabulations, intertwining between variations and dances.
