First polyphonic improvisations can be traced back to the Middle Ages. A few rare traditions have preserved it to this day, however, it reached its peak in the 15th and 16th century, as reported in many documents and textbooks. In 1970s, Jean-Yves Haymoz started a pioneer research in different improvisation techniques of this kind and soon after he included them in his teachings. He has founded a group called Le chant sur le livre in order to put these techniques into practice. Unbelievable masterpieces from the Renaissance were thus "crystallized" in a moment, creating an unforgettable experience for all present.
