Big Band Grosuplje was formed in 1997 by Braco J. Doblekar. It gathered young musicians who, as the years went by, became an interesting and experienced music cast. They gained new momentum in September 2012 when Klemen Kotar, a renowned saxophone player and member of numerous jazz and pop bands, joined them as conductor and art director. With the help of the American Embassy, he and vocal soloist Blaž Vrbič began working on the music programme of Frank Sinatra called 'A Swingin’ Affair', with which they performed at the US Independence Day celebration at the National Gallery. In 2014, they added new songs by Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett to their repertoire and performed at the Križanke Outdoor Theatre with a programme called 'Songs For Swingin’ Lovers'. The band members cherish the memory of jazz icons, this is why in 2014 they performed the songs from the musical opus of Gordon Goodwin, American instrumentalist and composer, while in 2015 they devoted their attention to Edward “Duke” Ellington and his Far East Suite.
