DUBRAVKA TOMŠIČ SREBOTNJAK, piano
Large Hall of Kulturni dom Nova Gorica
...
After devoting seven decades to her piano career, Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak plays only where she really enjoys it. We are very proud that the stage of the large hall of Kulturni dom Nova Gorica is a place where she likes to return. Dubrovnik-born musician carried the name of Slovenia across all music centres in the world. She began performing at the age of five, and up to present she has held about 5,000 concerts. Concerts led her through the music halls of Europe, North America, Mexico, Australia, Asia and Africa, performing either with recitals or with world-renowned orchestras and conductors. Her interpretations of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Liszt and other composer’s works have been recorded on more than 90 CDs, which were published both at home and abroad. She has received several awards for her artistic and educational work, including the Prešeren Fund Award (1962), the Župančič Award (1970), the Prešeren Award (1975), the AVNOJ Award (1976), the Gold Medal of the University of Ljubljana for educational and artistic creative work (1989) and others. She is the emeritus member of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra (1995) and the emeritus citizen of the city of Ljubljana (2005). In August 2005, she received the Orlando Award for her recital at the Dubrovnik Festival. “Each note is full of life. There is an ideal balance between the right and the left hand, and each line has its innate beginning, innate development and innate end. And all this feels absolutely delightful,” wrote the Austrian newspaper Kurier after one of her concerts. The nimble fingers of the first lady of Slovenian pianism will produce a beautiful harmony also on the black and white keys in Nova Gorica.
