MOZART'S QUARTETS FOR FLUTE AND A STRING TRIO
Kromberk Castle
Matej Grahek, flute
Miran Kolbl, violin
Maja Rome, viola
Petra Gačnik Greblo, violoncello
Once again, we will have the opportunity of listening to the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the most popular and remarkable authors of classical music alongside Haydn and Beethoven. There are not so many pieces combining winds and strings in his chamber works. Four of the five pieces of the kind are quartets for flute, violin, viola and cello, which is striking for a composer, who--by his own admission--did not like the flute very much.
The virtuosism and grandeur of these pieces will be conjured up at the castle hall by the renowned solo players of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, who have recorded four Mozart's quartets for flute and a string trio and published them in 2013 at the initiative of flute player Matej Grahek.
