This season's opening concert will be an exceptional experience. Kulturni Dom Nova Gorica together with the Kogoj's Days Festival will pay tribute to one of the most distinguished Slovenian conductors of classical music.
Maestro Anton Nanut is considered one of the most famous and successful Slovenian conductors who appeared regularly also on international concert stages. His efforts were consistently focused on developing and promoting Slovenian music, but he also baptized an extensive repertoire of new works. During his career, he collaborated as guest composer with numerous orchestras, especially across Europe. He was highly conscious about the mission of the classical music repertoire, of international and Slovenian musical heritage alike, which was reflected in musically rich interpretations and collaborations with world renowned orchestras and soloists. He was definitely considered one of the leading conductors of his generation and received numerous awards, among them the Prešeren Award for lifetime work.
The first concert of the season will be performed by the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Borut Smrekar, a former protégé of maestro Nanut who led the orchestra from 1975 to 1980. The programme choice comes as no surprise as the Prešern Fund Award has been bestowed for his interpretations of Beethoven symphonies.
