Laude - popular liturgical songs with vernacular lyrics- were popular in the 15th century Italian music. Around 1500, some frottole were hence transformed. Nonetheless, entirely new laude were composed in a similar style, which was simpler, lighter and more accessible to commoners compared to monumental liturgical polyphonic motets and masses.
The Italian ensemble Ricercare Antico, directed by lutenist Francesco Tomasi, will present laude and other instrumental songs from the 16th century. The young ensemble has been together for more than 10 years and has appeared on many important stages around Europe. Their debut CD dedicated to Giulio Caccini will be soon released under the record label Brilliant Classics.
