The Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra unites the finest musicians of the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra. It was established in 1993 with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. Since then the ensemble has given over 400 concerts in Slovenia and abroad. Its repertoire includes compositions of all period styles. The Orchestra dedicates special attention to Slovene composers, including the emerging young ones. All of this confirms the highest quality, the role and importance of the Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra in the Slovene and European musical performance landscape. The ensemble has received many awards for its successful work: the Prešeren Fund Award in 1999, the Župančič Award in 2004, the Betetto Charter in 2006, and the Ljubljana City Award in 2012.
We have had the pleasure to listen to the Orchestra many times in Nova Gorica. This time the Orchestra will be performing together with the excellent young Istrian violinist Nika Toškan, who is currently studying at the esteemed Academy of Music in Amsterdam with Professor Ilya Grubert. She has been a regular at competitions from a young age, winning several first prizes at the national and international level. She received a one-year Hasl's scholarship for her impressive achievements.
