When planning new concerts, we are particularly pleased to hear how active and internationally successful are young Slovene musicians. One of them is Irena Kavčič, the solo flautistist of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and a versatile musician who performs in exceptional orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra from Mantova, the Leonore orchestra, and the Spira Mirabilis orchestra. Kavčič also loves chamber music, which she plays in the company of experienced musicians (Alexander Lonquich, Pekka Kuusisto, Knut E. Sundquist) as well as aspiring young musicians, such as the outstanding Italian clarinetist Tommaso Lonquich and Zaïde Quartet. The first is praised for “rich tones”, “exceptional control and passionate play”, while the quartet - violinists Charlotte Maclet and Leslie Boulin-Raulet, violist Sarah Chenaf and cellist Juliette Salmon - is considered to be one of the most prominent young ensembles in France.
In certain ways the musicians are typical representatives of their generation, however, at the same time they are curious, open-minded and committed to a wide variety of music genres. Iztok Hrastnik, a talented Slovene double bassist, a member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, will surely refine the already excellent selection of musicians, promising a magnificent concert experience created in cooperation with the Cankar Centre and the Maribor National Hall.
