The concert revolves around the legend of St. Barlaam and his disciple Josaphat who very likely lived in the 3rd or 4th century India. Their story has been preserved in the 6th century Buddhist Sanskrit texts. The first Christianised adaptation of this story was written in Georgian in the 10th century. It was then translated into Greek and Latin, before becoming extremely popular and widespread in medieval Europe – also known as the Golden Legend.
The story has inspired the renowned Dialogos ensemble under the artistic direction of the extraordinary Croatian singer and musicologist Katarina Livljanić who has created a unique programme: a multimedia performance where medieval languages and musical repertoires meet modern scenography and videos forming an incredible acoustic Babylon. The ensemble specializes in early music. Their original programmes and incredible performances bring to live rarely heard music mainly from the territory of the former Yugoslavia. They have performed at the most important festivals around the world and their nine albums have received numerous prestigious awards.
