SLOVENIAN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
Veronika Brecelj, violin
Philipp von Steinacker, conductor
The first concert of the 40th jubilee concert season is dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven, the creative genius of the Viennese Classicism and early Romantic era. This year, we mark the 250th anniversary of his birth. Beethoven's works will be performed by the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, formerly known also as the Philharmonic Society which shares a special bond with the famous composer. In 1819, exactly one year after the first performance of his Pastoral Symphony in Ljubljana, he became one of its honorary members. To show his gratitude, Beethoven sent a letter of gratitude together with a transcript of the score for his Pastoral Symphony which is kept in the National and University Library in Ljubljana.
The orchestra will be conducted by the German conductor Philipp von Steinacker, whereas Veronika Brecelj, a young local violinist will perform as a soloist. Veronika graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts in 2017. She is now studying for a master’s degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. The young musician has won multiple national and international competitions and, as a soloist, she has already performed with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and the Slovenian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. She has given numerous recitals in Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands.
