John Dowland is undeniably one of the most important English composers and greatest lutenist of all time. Like troubadours a few centuries before him, he travelled to different European courts where he played the lute and sang. The legendary soprano Amma Kirkby has specialised in Baroque and Renaissance music, especially John Dowland’s songs, over the past 50 years. Her repertoire will be accompanied by the lutenist Bor Zuljan who recorded an award-winning CD featuring Dowland’s solo music last year.
