Our March concert will focus on one of the greatest composers of all time. His works are characterized by their intellectual depth, technical complexity and artistic beauty: Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Matej Šarc has arranged his famous cycle of French Suites for a Baroque trio consisting of an oboe, a harpsichord and a cello. These stylized baroque dances were originally intended for harpsichord, but most of the movements can be performed in such a way that the oboe and its sister oboe d’amore take the lead melody, the cello plays the bass line, and the harpsichord supplies the bass chord progression for the cello, contributing to a colourful richness of the Suites. The interaction of these great musicians that share the same love and admiration for the Baroque composer – the oboist Matej Šarc, the harpsichordists Kayoko Ikeda, and the cellist Martin Sikur – will add charm to Bach’s works which will be seen under a completely new light on the big stage of Kulturni dom Nova Gorica.
