Baroque Roots of South American Music
BACH CONSORT WIEN
Francisco Brito, tenor
Rubén Dubrovsky, conductor
Bach Consort Wien was founded in 1999. It has rapidly become one of Austria’s most significant Baroque ensembles. The ensemble led by Rubén Dubrovsky from the very beginning performs regularly on prestigious concert stages and at a number of important music festivals throughout Europe. Moreover, they collaborate with various accomplished soloists, like Emma Kirkby, Bernarda Fink, Christiane Karg, Franco Fagioli, Michael Schade and Andreas Scholl, as well as guest conductors. This Viennese baroque ensemble is not only famous for its diverse repertoire, but also for including dancers and literature in their concerts which in turn actually become interdisciplinary projects. Their January concert will feature an interesting concert entitled "Vidala, baroque roots of South American music". It comprises traditional music from Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, as collected by Atahualpa Yupanqui, Andrés Chazarreta, brothers Díaz and others. Many of the songs are of anonymous composers that have passed through generations for centuries; whereas the dances have their roots in the Baroque period and were formed under the influence of the music of Spanish colonizers, the natives of South America and African slaves.
The big stage of Kulturni dom Nova Gorica will host the ensemble and the Argentine tenor Francisco Brito, who began his vocal studies in his homeland at the age of eleven. He continued to study in Italy at the Accademia d'Arte Lirica in Osimo, and then at Scuola dell’Opera Italiana in Bologna where he debuted in several in Rossini's roles.
