The February concert of the musical season will be focused on the works of the German baroque composer G. Ph. Telemann, who was creating between the Seventeenth and the Eighteenth century. He was considered a central figure of the German music of the time and was far more renowned and revered at the time than his contemporaries J. S. Bach and G. F. Händel. Recent studies have shown that he had composed around three thousand works, mostly church music and some orchestral suites. Sadly, many of his works were lost mainly during the Second World War.
The baroque atmosphere will be recreated by the main Slovenian symphonic orchestra proving its excellence again and again in many international guest appearances at the main global concert venues. The guests of the orchestra include famous conductors and soloists, while the orchestra's activity in Slovenia mostly consists of regular season concerts at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana. The role of the conductor will be performed by Matej Šarc, whom we have had many opportunities of listening to as an oboe player in the Slowind Orchestra. Although contemporary music plays an important part of his artistic endeavours, recently he started exploring baroque music and its role today.
