The genre with Latin-American and Afro-American influences, usually performed by large church choirs or experienced singers, with occasional accompanying by piano, organ, drums or guitars, will be performed in Nova Gorica in a slightly different manner. Arranger, director and keyboard player Anže Vrabec has written a considerable amount of arrangements for gospel songs that will be performed by Big Band NOVA and the frisky Singgirls, a spin-off of the Youth Choir of Šempeter-Vrtojba directed by Mojca Maver Podbersič and the renowned gospel singer Sherrita Durran, originally from California, but living for many years in Italy. After studying classical singing, she ventured with success into jazz, gospel and pop. She boasts a warm and colourful voice with a velvety timber and a great range, in addition to perfectly developed technique. The famous Italian musical critic Mario Luzzatto Fegiz has defined Sherrita's voice as an ‘acrobatic’ soprano, with the ability of natural blending belcanto and pristine black music.
