For the 24th year, Nova Gorica will be once again the meeting point for saxophonists from Slovenia and abroad. After a forced one-year break caused by the epidemiological crisis related to the Covid-19 virus, we are looking forward to the tide of saxophone music flowing through our city and its surroundings. SAXGO21 – the 24th International Saxophone Meeting in Slovenia, the longest running festival in the city, will host the Saxophone Summer School and the Festival this year.
The educational programme entitled Saxophone Summer School will take place from 27 June to 1 July 2021. It will include workshops on classical and jazz saxophone and a one-day online masterclass on composition and improvisation with renowned American saxophonist and composer Steve Lehman. The classical saxophone workshop will be conducted by Matjaž Drevenšek, Miha Rogina and Jan Gričar, and the jazz saxophone workshop will be conducted by Boštjan Simon and Daniele D'Agaro.

A rich festival programme under the artistic direction of Jan Gričar and Boštjan Simon will present excellent and internationally renowned saxophonists. During the festival, concerts will be held across different venues in Nova Gorica and its surroundings. We will hear saxophone music in different classical, jazz and other modern contexts, revealing all its expressive features.
This year's festival will be opened by Hobby Horse, an Italo-American trio, on Friday, followed by Schime on Saturday. The Sunday and Monday concerts will feature classical saxophone music by Jan Gričar and the pianist Neža Koželj, and the performance by Duo Kalypso. On Tuesday evening at the Kromberk Castle, Cene Resnik and Free Stellar Trio will perform with guest saxophonist Daniele D'Agaro from Italy. On Wednesday, there will be two concerts - the Celje String Orchestra with soloist conducted by Nenad Firšt will be followed by a jam session with the Leon Firšt Trio. The festival will culminate with the final concert featuring participants of the Saxophone Summer School in our large theatre hall.
The entrance to all festival concerts will be free of charge. In case of bad weather all concerts will be held indoors at the Kulturni dom Nova Gorica. After the stressful "corona-time" summer could not start any better! Welcome to SAXGO21!
