Big band NOVA has been active in the Goriška region since 1995, giving more than 300 performances and concerts. The band collaborated and still collaborates with well-known names of the Slovenian music scene, such as Anika Horvat, Nuša Derenda, Alenka Godec, Darja Švajger, Tinkara Kovač, Janez Bončina - Benč, Vlado Kreslin, Tulio Furlanič and others. They perform songs by noted jazz composers, such as Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Herbie Hancock, as well as covers of Slovenian popular songs and original compositions of Anže Vrabec, Boštjan Simon, Goran Krmac and Damijan Valentinuzzi. Big band NOVA also works with young vocalists from the Goriška region on a regular basis.
Damijan Valentinuzzi’s first encounter with the trumpet happened at the Tolmin Music School in the class of Prof. Miloš Rijavec and then continued his path at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet, where he was taught by Prof. David Jarh, and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (Austria), where he attended the classes of Prof. Eduard Holnthaner and Stjepko Gut. He graduated in 2007 and immediately enrolled at a master's programme and did some additional training in Berlin with Gerard Presencer, one of the best jazz trumpet players in Europe.
