Cstle of Kromberk

Jasna Merlak 2015

Harp is one of the oldest musical instruments known, dating back to the fourth millennium BCE. The 'ethereal' instrument, as defined by the great philosopher Plato, will shine at the concert of Castle Harmonies given by Jasna Corrado Merlak, a renowned harpist from Trieste.

She graduated in harp with distinction from the G. Tartini Conservatory of Trieste and was awarded a silver medal for best graduation student in 1985 from the President of the Italian Republic. She continued her studies as the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, USA. She started giving concerts at the age of fifteen, with a performance at the International Harpists' Competition in Santa Margherita Ligure and took first place. In 1986, she has won the International Harp Competition in Paris and embarked on a long tour of the United States the following year. She is often playing with a range of European orchestras. She performed in several important international festivals. She regularly cooperates as main harpist with Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Festival Orchestra of Spoleto, the RAI Symphonic Orchestra in Torino, the Orchestra of the Slovenian National Radio and Television in Ljubljana and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. She has made recordings for a series of radio and television stations, such as the Italian RAI, the BBC, the Austrian ORF, Radio Swiss Classic and Radio France Musique.
