IMPROVISATION MASTERCLASS ON RENAISSANCE POLYPHONY FOR INSTRUMENTALISTS

This season, the Flores Musicae Festival will be enriched with a highly specialized improvisation masterclass on renaissance polyphony for lutenists, harpists, guitarists, harpsichordists, as has never been seen in Slovenia before.

Workshops will be led by Slovenian and foreign internationally acclaimed professors and musicians, experts in the field: Rolf Lislevand, Dušan Bogdanović, Jean-Yves Haymoz and Bor Zuljan. Participants will be divided into 3 to 4 groups of five, according to their level of musical knowledge and instrument. Under the tutorial guidance of lecturers they will study different segments of improvisation in Renaissance polyphony, from instrumental to vocal music. 

The masterclass is open also to musicians without any preceding knowledge of improvisation and counterpoint, who can play three or multi-voice compositions on their instrument.

Masterclass program:

-  introduction meeting with lecturers, division into 3 to 4 groups of max 5 participants according to their level of musical knowledge and instruments

- 10 lessons in groups

- every group will work individually with each lecturer on four different topics:

Dušan Bogdanović: »Improvisation on the counterpoint – guitarist view«
Jean-Yves Haymoy: »Vocal and instrumental improvisation in the period of renaissance«
Bor Zuljan: »Improvisation on fantasia in the renaissance«

- individual work with lecturers

- working in chamber groups

- practicing for the concert performance

- attending the concerts of the Flores Musicae Festival.

Passive attendance: € 50 (free entrance to concerts included)

Participants take care of their own meals and accommodation.

The deadline for application is Monday, 18th September 2017.
In the case of participant cancellation the organizer will retain 20% of the participation fee to cover administrative expenses.
